Our Focus

How We WorkOur work is focused on sharing insights, responsibility and resources.
Wingspan Partnerships works in communities where independent schools thrive while some public schools struggle. The scenario may include individual schools, schools within a consortium, or education programs sponsored by foundations and other institutional entities.

Wingspan Partnerships links schools seeking opportunities to promote student growth, teacher learning and parent involvement across communities.

Pioneering independent schools know that public-private school partnerships work. Click and read more about Lick-Wilmerding, Park Day and Sidwell Friends.

Creating a Public Purpose Plan

Through conversations with teachers, school leaders and community members we evaluate each school's assets and aspirations and help create programs to serve the schools and communities involved. Creating and developing a public purpose plan includes the following phases:

  • ASSESSMENT: Wingspan examines existing community connections and explores new ones. Some schools launch programs and begin to cultivate relationships with neighboring schools and community resources. Other schools already have connections, but need to assess the relevance and outcomes of their service learning programs. Still other schools are not content with programs but are intent on pioneering public-private school partnerships as an institutional orientation. Wingspan Partnerships' Public Purpose Audit assesses each school's current position and points the way to get to where they want to go.
  • STRATEGY: We help schools, school consortia, and educational foundation programs create a mission-driven, intentional public purpose plan. At whatever stage the partnership may be, our team can help educators identify and build community, cultural and school partnerships that will further leverage school assets and expand student and teacher learning.
  • ACTION: Wingspan guides the process of getting partnerships off the ground and assists in securing foundation and community support. With our experience in a range of communities and public and private schools, we provide on-going support as partnerships take wing and grow into meaningful long-term relationships. We continue to evaluate and adjust partnerships into maturity.
